Who can study in Canada?
Any Kenyan who has been accepted by a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and can show enough money and a genuine plan can apply for a study permit. Popular choices for Kenyan students include college diplomas in business, IT, healthcare and supply chain, and master's degrees in engineering, data science and public health.
- KCSE holders: college certificates and diplomas (1–3 years).
- Diploma holders: advanced diplomas or degree pathways with credit transfer.
- Degree holders: postgraduate diplomas, master's and PhD programs.
Good to know: Since 2024, most study permit applicants need a Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter (PAL/TAL) from the province where they'll study, and this now includes most master's and doctoral students. Your school usually issues it with your offer.

Kenya-specific tips
Show where your money comes from: payslips, business records and land sale agreements, not just a sudden big deposit.
If a parent or relative is sponsoring you, include their bank statements, an affidavit of support, and proof of how you're related.
Your study plan should link the program to real jobs in Kenya. IRCC wants to see you have a reason to come back.
Certify copies of KCSE and university certificates. Some schools also ask for KNEC or university verification.
